hi, i have a chance to pick up a 4200 engine 05 with 75k mi.. it has low compression in 2 cyl. 70 and 90. i can get this from where i work probibly for free. i have a good running blown 270 gmc in my 53 2dr but i have been following the talk about these 4200s. what would you all think about my blower on the 4200? the gmc realy gets it on! would the 4200 be that much better. thanks

The 4200 has the potential to be vastly better in power and yes it will be significantly lighter.

The Jimmy beats it on cool points though.

That said, there are sleeves, pistons, and rods available (special order) that should make the bottom end able to endure more boost than your particular blower can produce.

If you can get it for free or nearly free go 4 it, if nothing else you could sell it later (whole or 1 piece at a time).

yes the jimmie is cool! has forged pistons, cam, 302 head from ron coxs drag truck.the blower is a 471 i run around 6-1 comp. with 14 # boost. the blower has a 600 carb on top. i think i will pick up the 4200 and play with it. i'm sure in can find plenty of help here. oh and yes the jimmie is HEAVY! i'm a HOTRODER ( if it runs real good we can still make it run better)i will post some pictures when i figure out how jd

Your problem with the camshafts could be caused by a lack of zinc in the oil you're using, or it could be too much valve spring pressure.

Some of us -- surely Tom the Beater and i -- would rather have your wild, blown 270 than the 4200, but we're from the past, as i am frequently reminded. Still we shall certainly be interested in what you achieve with the 4200. It is the future of inline hotrodding, or part of it.

God's Peace to you.

Oh yeah, them's pretty snazzy pics.

I too would love some video, prefereably of it driving 'under power' ;\) but running in the driveway is good, if that's what you have handy. \:\)

If you do install the 4200 and decide to run EFI I can supply a good base tune up if you choose to run megasquirt. Apart from wiring the EFI box in with my tune up file you should be able to get in a turn the the key.

Its also possible to have megasquirt only run the ignition and still use your carb. I have a boost tune up now that allow you to use the stock coil on plug ignition and stock crank trigger pick up. So basically run the crank trigger input to the box, connect up the coils and run 1 vacuum hose, +12 from the key and ground wire.

What will really help the '05 4200 is to port the exhaust side - it really needs help.

Without porting @ 8-10 PSI you should get 350HP with porting another 25-30 more. The '02 to '05 exhaust ports are really restrictive as cast but there is enough material to do a good port job. The intake just needs a minor clean up to knock off 1 sharp edge, otherwise its good.

Stainless Works is making a header for these engines now.

The first photo was just the right size.
That is one gorgeous CHEEBIE! Those shaved bumpers and tube grille really caught my eye, along with the super straight body.

i have some questions the engine i may get is from a 4 wheel drive and has the front sump on the oil pan. this may make it hard to install in my car. are there rear sump pans? all though the 4200 is a little shorter than the gmc it might fit behind my front cross member.

thanks efi-diy, just trying to get my ducks in a row before i jump into this. and i would sure like to run the mega-squrt system i'm not real sharp on this computer controled stuff but i would like to control fuel and spark. i had a hall-teck system and was going to put throttle bodies on my blower but i scraped that idea. i don't think it would have been a hole lot better than my carburator. one other problem, i have been told that the blower won't live very long with out gas going through it. as the gas keeps it cool and it does get hot.

This may help, the newer eaton blower are designed for dry air only... Turn the older setup into $$$

" would sure like to run the mega-squrt system i'm not real sharp on this computer controlled stuff but i would like to control fuel and spark."

If you go ahead with the MS system I can send you a fuel/spark tuneup that will get you running. Once the engine running and you have a chance to look at the tuning software on a running engine it starts to make a lot more sense than just just reading the manual.

To install a tune up file is easier than attaching pictures to this web site.

Then if you play with the tune up in the MS and make an ooops - just don't save it to permanent memory - shut the MS off and your changes disappear.

looks like i'm getting the 4200 from where i work. what i would like to know is what will need to be done to this engine to run my blower on it. i can build the intake and drive system for the blower. i would probably like to run 10 to 15 pounds of boost. my jimmie has 6-1 compression with forged pistons it gets 15 pounds. allso looks like i can pickup a later good head

These engines are 10:1 CR so you consider 8# about the max you can go without running 100+ octane or methanol injection.

Also keep the timing short like 22* total under cruise and 8-10* under boost.

If you want to run more boost - well time for pistons and rods.

On the 42000,,,I would not install 6-1 compression pistons,,you won't like it,,,engine will be really lazy & poor gas mileage.
