If a bellhousing was made to allow earlier manual transmissions (T10, T-5 etc..) to bolt up to the 4200, how many folks would find a need for this?

I would certainly be interested. I'd prefer a manual transmission and this is one of the obstacles, although I understand existing bellhousings can be used with an adaptor plate. Am I correct in that assumption?

i have thought about using the four-cylinder version of this engine--as, for example, in the '94 Miata i had--but the automatic transmission was a major drawback. i should never drive an automatic if i could avoid it, and an available bellhousing would open up more possibilities.

God's Peace to you.

If I could get a 4200 attached the chevy trans I already have I would definately go that route but I would need one pretty quick because I want to get my car back together for spring.

This could happen still but really its up to everyone who would want one to get together and say yep we have say 10 folks and would be willing to say help with the $$ to get the pattern made. I'd add a little bit to cover direct expenses.

Is the bolt pattern on the 4200 the same as the newer Ls V-8 series engines?
Or what bolt pattern does it have, does any other engine share this pattern?

I would guess that the LS V8 engines do not use the same pattern. The starter location on the 4200 is too high for a V8. I may be wrong! If you are looking for a bolt-on manual transmission bellhousing, I used a 5-speed from a Colorado Pick-up.
Also if you're looking for someone to manufacture a bellhousing... there is a company that casts their own. It's called QUAD4RODS, they make one to install a Quad 4 in a RWD. You can use a T5, T10, Muncie. I plan on installing a Quad 4 in a (Che)Vette. Maybe with enough interest, these guys will make one for the 4200.

Its an orphan - why GM would do something so dumbass in beyond me. The only possible answer is to clear the front driveshaft. Some young cad jockey - look what I can do.....

I think they used a TH400. At the power lever they were making (I've heard rumors of 1300 - 1400HP)its the only 3spd automatic I know of that can take that abuse.

The dowel pins are at the same location relative to the crank.
