Hello.. new here.... but no strangers to turbos.

I've got a 67 Chevelle Wagon.. I've had a SBC in it before now

but sold that and the 700R4. I'm looking into the 2005ish I6

out of the trail Blazers for a power plant with a single 60

series turbo to go on it. Who knows about how much the stock

block can take with just boost and tune. Parts avalable?

I'm NOT going to build the engine... AT least not at first.

This will be a daily driver Tuned with HPTuners.

Thanks for any input guys!
Scott.

Here is my current car:

At home I have a list of links for the 4200 (if you're searching here it gets called 4200 more than anything).

I'll check when I get home and see if I can post them for you.

PM me if I forget.

I have a number in my mind, but I may be mis remembering so I'll hold off till I can check.

As for performance parts IIRC there is a tube header available (dunno if it's single or dual), one of our members was able to come up with a turbo manifold (one of the things I plan to check my list for) and to the best of my knowledge there have been 2 group buys of cam blanks (have them ground to suit).

IIRC the "cheating" was that it spent some travel time on a trailer, but "dems da rules".

In searching my cheat sheet I rediscovered I've actulally posted some of it elsewhere.

The exhaust manifold for the turbo is a top mount, dunno if you will have hood room, but probably not. \:\(

Yes EFI-DIY is the resident expert on all this, I figured you would see that in the threads.

Hi Scott,

If you can start with a '06 up engine they are much better. The head is significantly better on the exhaust side and they have better rods in them (which I recently found out). Also the '06 up motors have built in oil squiters to cool the piston domes.

The tooling to make a rear sump oil pan is out being made with initial pans hopefully cast before years end.

Steedspeed makes a turbo manifold for this engine. Bigger injectors are available.

I ran 8 PSI on my early 4200 and inspection of the block on inspection show no ill signs.

Currently running a modified '06 with sleeves, rods, pistons. The '06 head is ported with custom cams on 10 PSI its a brute.

Thank you for all the information!!!!
I'm going to go pick my Wagon up from storage today.. and bring it back over to the shop.
The 4200's sure seem cheap enough.
I'm not looking to make this run any quicker than 11's.
I'm not going to cage it.. this is a driver.
This Wagon had a 250? I6 in it stock with a glide.
I thought it had a bad head gasket .. kept milkshaking the
coolant... replaced head gasket and still did it.
Ended up being a crack in the oil gallery? Filling the cooling
system with oil. I was not happy.. I liked that engine.
So.. I don't want to go back to a SBC.
I think the 4200 is perfect.
I'm going to get a used 2006 then and 4L60E.

Since GN turbo's are cheap and I know the sizes real good
I'm going to pick up a used one and fab my own
exhaust mfld and downpipe. I'll try to retain as much
of the stock stuff as possible and document what I did as
I go along.
I would like to drive it spring.. and if it turns out
the way I want it to take it to Drag Week in daily
driver.
If not I'll run the Camaro again \:\)
I've got too many projects! Here's my list:

86 Camaro/GN setup.
89 Nissan Maxmia 3.0V6 with GN turbo (13.40@107mph)
92 Typhoon (Wife's summer driver)
98 GMC 4dr Jimmy Turbo.. (Wifes Daily) 14.4@93 w/9psi
92 Naked Typhoon 1 of 5 with no cladding
91 Syclone.. basket case.. LS1 AWD single Turbo project
67 Chevelle Wagon I6 Project
86 T-Type Show/Nice day driver (Wifes) Midnight blue.

I'm a idiot for having all this crap!
The wife hates the wagon.. but I love the darn thing.
(On her typhoon title is says "Station Wagon" so..
I just remind her of that when she chews me out for keeping it. \:\)

Sorry I got off track.. thanks for your help again I'll
keep asking stupid questions I'm sure.

Look forward to your build thread.

If this is your idea of "stupid questions" I would invite you to some other forums I frequent to see if you could edumacate some of the twits I see post there. ;\)

What other Forums are you refering to?

I've seen 4200's on E-bay for 300-600. with under 100,000mi.

Is that about the going price? Sure seems fare enough.

Transmissions for about 300.00. (Engine comes with harness and ECU.
I have HPTuners.. so it'll be good for tuning.

Have to put a Warbro 340 in the tank and run a return line.

I think I'm going to do the adaptor dash package that allows me

to run the aftermarket gauges. That'd look nice. Also thinking

about running 98ish Jimmy Front seats/rear fold down bench and

center console.

None in particular, just have come across some doozies lately ("but wouldn't you have to worry about detonation at that boost level" as seen on a diesel forum, yes a diesel was the subject of that thread).

FWIW I would reccommend getting your engine with the truck. I got mine complete from a salvage auction. 2WD even (who knew they made them).

The one on E-bay was out of a 2wd TrailBlazer. It says "Complete" with ECM/Harness ect. And 2wd trans for 349.00 extra.
I'm going to call them to confirm it comes with Gas pedal for DBW and everything else I'll need. Then getting it all to fit ect. I'm excited.. this should be fun.

Good deal, that might work out well for you. Do they say the anti theft system has been disabled? I've read they are kind of a pain to work around if you have to go back and do that as opposed to doing it up front (while it's still in the truck, if you're using the factory computer, which it sounds like that's your plan).

We have a '50 GMC 100

When we get around to our swap we are going to look into using the axle out of the Trailblazer, maybe even the front suspension (rear too if we have room).

I have been scheming on using the fuel system from the TB, tank and all, still have to check how much room we have to play with. Sure would be nice if it worked out (for those that want to ask me what's wrong with the tank in the cab, I'm 6'3" tall and plan to move the seat back for more legroom, so that tank's gotta go).

Not necessarily relevant, but that's where I'm coming from when I suggest getting the whole truck.

Most of the stuff I'm looking to use likely won't work in your wagon though.

Out of curiosity, would the tank out of a Camaro work in your wagon? I ask because IIRC Car Craft had an article recently (last year or two) about swaping an OT EFI engine into vintage iron and they mentioned that Rock Auto had an option for Camaros, Mustangs, and a few others where you could get a new tank, with the efi pump / tank unit already in it for what seemed reasonable at the time, just remembered that, if you're interested, I'll see if I can find the article.

That's a cool site.. I'd not seen that one before.. Thank you.

The Program I have: HPTuners I can disable the VATS system. That

part anyhow should not be a problem. I'm going to have to

program for the larger injectors and lower the timing tables..

increase the PE (Power Enrichment) table for boost.

Just like I did for my wife's 98 Jimmy I turbo'd with 4.3L. It's

been together for 30,000mi and has almost 170,000 on stock engine

Using Stock Typhoon turbo/DP/Injectors/exhaust Mflds.

Recycling is fun!
