Hi everyone, my name is Ruben and i have a 57 chevy 4 door 150 and am in the process on converting from 3 speed to a 700r4 trans. The numbers on my block tells me that the engine was made in '58, so i would like to know will i be needing the adapter set up that they sell to install it to the 235? My tranny guy and some others tell me that it should match up due to the gm standardizing the bolt pattens between the 6 cyl and v8s. If i don't need the adapter what kind of flexplate would i use, my stock flywheel was a 168 tooth and about 14-1/8" in diameter, and the flexplates that are available were in the adapter kits only, so if anyone can give me a little insight on this i would be greatly appreciative.
Thanks for your time.

Hi Ruben, The standardization didn't start until the 230" series engines in '63, so you will need adapters. You can check with Buffalo Enterprises, see his info in '12 Port Advertisers' in the menu on the left side of the page.

Titen is right, 1962 6 cyl [235- 261] will not fit a automatic except the old style cast iron power glide. In1963 with the change to the 193-230 the bell housing pattern on the back of block changed to the same pattern as the v-8. I'm not knocking any transmision man but there probally a few aroind that never seen the old cast iron one. 1 OL REDNECK

RV56:I don't mean to beat this to compare to the newer automatic trans you can see the difference yourself very clearly.I personally think the newer autos make a great addition to the older cars. TJMO. I OL REDNECK
