unless your going to ran a after market dampener it is Best to Keep the 292 dampener. Your old one can be rebuilt. hope this helps. }[oooooo]

Ps.Try finding the dampener dudes They rebuild them to factory specks

If you're not racing and your engine is not going to turn 5-6000 rpms on a daily basis then save your time and money (versus using DamperDudes) and get this brand new one cheap

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7929190239&category=38656

I bought one of these from this seller and it's just as pictured. I bought a 3 groove 292 balancer from Damper Dudes (as if I really needed a heavy 3-groove balancer) and it cost about twice as much as this one.

292 harmonic balancer is different from the 250 unit. The 250's is too light, although it would bolt up.

Thanks for the input, guys. There are quite a few 292s still around my area so I think I'll do the scrapyard thing for my stock (except for a Holley/Weber and 700R4) daily-driver-to-be.Tom

Hey Tom,

I'm not trying to discourage your engine building but for safety and engine longevity reasons you might want to re-think getting a junkyard harmonic balancer.

Since you live in a very cold winter climate, and the last time GM used 292s as stock engines in their vehicles was 15 years ago, I'd say chances are good that the rubber ring on any damper you find has probably deteriorated to a point where it could be unsafe to run. A damaged or dry rotted damper ring could cause balancer separation, which could be disastrous for your engine if you're driving down the road while it happens.

The balancer I showed you from Ebay is only $45.00USD and is brand new. If you go to a salvage yard, you'll pay at least half that much, if not more. And if you get it for less you'll probably have to pull it yourself. So even if you don't buy the one from Ebay, at least get a rebuild one from Damper Doctor. They do good work. ;\)
