Ray, you seem to be up on all the old race cars-----did K&K make any 1/4 mile drag cars? Are there any racers back in 52 that used the old Chrysler flattie six in 1/4 mile drag racing? Thanks......Lee

A bit outside the limits of my knowledge, Lee...

It is quite likely, however, that somebody used the flathead six in drag racing prior to the V8's arrival.

I'll put the question on the Nostalgia Forum, someone there is bound to answer. I guess I could try Trackforum too.

View this link and scroll down to the 4th and 5th pictures. You can see both cars there.

Another car was built by Frank Kurtis for Jack Lufin in 1964 which doubled as a race car on the drag strips but also at Bonneville. Raced for many years. Car inverted at Bonneville in 1973 and apparently was broken up for scrap following this event despite not being badly damaged.

Ray, this is good news as I have taken my 52 Windsor and rebuilt a new engine for it.I have gone to a racing theme on the engine compartment---black and yellow checker board firewall--engine has a black head with the Spitfire in yellow along with the block. Passenger inner fender has Kurtis-Kraft racing on it with 270 CID---drivers side has the 66 number on it for the 500A roadster K&K made for Indy in 53. Still would be interested if there is any flattie news out there on drag racing in the day---times and speed, who and where, pics would be fun............Lee

And a bit more... a real drag car:

Don't blame me... it was the blokes at Trackforum who came up with it...

Surprised that TNF didn't. But drag racing is very much a side-issue there.

A number of years ago I saw a Mopar flathead 6 in a short dragster in Denver. I have not seen or heard anything since.

I'm thinking that might be a number in excess of 40, right?

Ahhh... recent history...

I'm still intrigued by those mid-fifties experiments that saw a special ohv head made for the flathead with a great bundle of swirl built into the ports and chambers so it could run on just about any fuel.

Wish I still had that article.
