Where does the PCV valve mount if I am using a Mercruiser cast valve cover?

You should mount it at the opposite end of the valve cover that has the inlet breather, prefferably with an oil control baffle beneath it and a divider in the middle of the valve cover so as to promote crankcase scavenging of the corrosive blowby gasses. This usually means putting the PCV in the rear and the breather in the front of the valve cover. Most auto parts stores have appropriate grommets to accomplish this. Good luck.

You will find with the Merc covers 3 different PCV/ Cap configurations.
1. Cap in front , PCV in middle (won't clear my hood)
2. Cap back about 6" , PCV in middle
3. Cap at rear, not sure on PCV
and maybe a 4th. Cap in front, PCV in rear.

Thanks guys.
I never seen one of these in person and sometimes the pics are difficult to identify. I ask due to I'm trying to find a way around the stock steel valve cover that is difficult to remove without bending. And also find something a tad cheaper than an Offy of Clifford.

One of the problems in removing the valve cover from our sixes is the thermostat housing. That and the fuel and vac line to distributor are also stuffed between the valve cover, and thermostat housing. There are several sources that make a 5/16 aluminum spacer for the thermostat housing that eliminates these problems, or make your own.

Sissells also sells an offset thermo housing,to eliminate the need for a spacer.

Nice engine bay! Wish mine looked like that. I run the same Merc cover. Notice how the Fill hole is back about 8". Tom

6pac2go,
x2 on the engine bay pics.
What are the chrome pieces on the right side of the valve cover? Breathers?

Did you have to slice and dice on the valve cover to install them? What are they off from?

Good to see your having fun with your car. If it isn't any fun or when it becomes more of chore than pleasure, then what's the point?
Enjoy

Very nice!
mid 17's w/a 1 bbl?
Not bad,car is light, have you thought about running a larger carb?
Trans is a powerglide?
A short tailshaft TH 350 will bolt right in for improve times in the 1/4.

I always like to suggest a trans w/an OD,2004R,7004R,in that order, for very mild builds.

I will be using a 4L85E trans.

Also,if interested,,maybe use a truck exhaust manifold like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayIS...RK%3AMEWAX%3AIT
(this one seems to have cracks)for a cheap upgrade along w/a little larger exhaust system.
Maybe someone here has one for sale?

Small cam would wake it up also.
It all just cost some money,& depends on if you are interested in any upgrades at all? Cheap mods for 1/4 mile gains,or a little more for better gains.

I probably said too much already.

The breathers are available in several different catalogs. They come in two different angles you want the 90 degree style. Check Jegs and summit. they used to be cheap but getting higher priced daily or so it seems.

I'm sold on the breathers. They look cool and appear to be functional.

I'm looking for a cast(Mercruiser) valve cover and these look like they would work great on it. Breathers for 20 bucks are more than reasonably priced.

Are 2 breathers needed, o were two installed for the sake of symmetry in the appearance?
