Can I just get lets say a 75 350 flywheel and drill out the holes to 1/2" and use it for my 292. Looking for a quick (cheaper) fix since the V8 flywheels are abundant. Thanks.

What about the dowel holes. They aren't usually in the SBC type flywheels or flexplates.

Ted,
You can do just as you mentioned and not worry about dowel pins.

Myself , after having had, flywheel retention problems, would recommend getting the proper flywheel and dowels.

There is one on ebay, and reasonable. search for 292 chevy flywheel. It is a buy it now and comes with dowels and strengthening collar.

thanks fellas!! I'm stuck at Fort Sill Oklahoma at the moment for school and just want to get my chevelle back on the road. Just wanted to know so I can go to one of the local parts stores cause the V8 ones are in stock, don't really have the time to wait, plus about half the price. Thanks again!!!

Speaking of the 3 dowels used on the 292 flange, does anybody have a source for the proper dowels? I called a chevy parts counter using the GM# in santucci's book, and of course thats an obsolete # now.
Were they intended to be reamed to fit at installation also? I think I read that somewhere.
Ted, stay out of the Lawton bars! LOL.

You can tap them or drill & tap them & install bolts.

Just a thought.
