I asked this with a different post, but thought I should start another thread...

I was hoping to get my flexplate and torque converter installed today, but hit a bit of a snag. The 292 flexplate I bought a few months ago and 700R4 torque converter patterns don't match up. When I bought the flexplate a few months ago, I was told it would work with both my powerglide and 700r4. I decided to skip re-installing the PG and was going install the 700r4. Looks like the flexplate will not fit either one.

The engine previously had a 4 spd bolted up to it, so I don't have an old flexplate. I do have a flexplate from a 194, but this does not have the holes for the alignment dowels. The 292 flexplate has 6 holes for bolts and three holes for dowels.

Here is a pic of the new flexplate. As far as I can tell, all of the following numbers refer to it:
G139 / 361052 /  FRA-157 / 14002590

Does anyone know of any vehicles that came with a 292/700r4 or a 292/PG combo from the factory?

I would not worry about using an original 292 flexplate. Any aftermarket sbc flexplate for a two piece rear main non-400 motor will work. Most of the aftermarket units have both convertor bolt patterns.Drilling the bolt holes out to 1/2" is not a big deal. See the example below:

Not all 292 cranks were drilled for three dowels, although the more, if they fit tightly, the better. If you are not going to be turning high rpm one dowel, good 1/2" bolts and red Loctite should be fine.
