I am refinishing the interior metal pieces including the dashboard on my '52 Chev hardtop. My qestion is, should I add a flattener to the paint so that it will not be as glossy as the exterior?
Was the original interior paint flatter than the exterior?
I don't want the interior to be super glossy. What's the usual practise here?

Not directly pertinant to your question, but are you going to run a dash pad?

My recollection from "back in the day" as they say was that the interior panels were a gloss finish. By todays standards probably would be a semi gloss. I don't remember ever seeing a car looking like they can today with these new paints. I've been around really nice single lacquer paint jobs back then that were really nice but not like these two and three stage paint jobs of today. So my two cents is "sort of glossy".

I like for the inside ,dash, window frames, etc to be shiny. It makes it easier to keep clean. I'm tough on exterior paint so there is flat stuff out there. I was upset when Dupla-Color folded to California a stopped putting lacquer in rattle cans. It was a great product that could be easily touched up without a lot of fuss and mess. In My '38 Ford coupe every metal part inside was chrome. It looked great when it was freshly cleaned and polished but it was a bear to keep that way. Beater

I won't be running a dash pad. The dash will be two tone, the top being red to match the out side and the bottom will be cream to compliment the two tone upholstery. I'm thinking shiny now.

That will look nice! Post a picture when it's done.

If you do shiny you can use cleaner wax to keep it nice. Less upkeep actually.

I used a flat clear coat to remove the gloss on the interior of my truck. I don't like a lot of glare on the dash.

Have a 66 C10 fleetside longbed.
More than my share of rusty rails and shot front bed wall.
Anyone have experience with Zero Rust? or any suggestions.
Now that I have a cart load of rattle cans ordered.
