Anyone using a finned Offy valve cover and head studs on a 230/250/292? I just did a test fit and it isn't close. The cover rests on the nuts (which are on top of washers and much taller than the heads on regular head bolts.)

I'm not sure I could even clearance it without having oil leak problems.

You can cut the whole section out where the head bolts are,,,,those areas above the head bolts are not sealing areas.

Or you can double up the valve cover gaskets,,,glue two gaskets together then install.

The double gasket set up worked for about a week and then leaked like a sieve.

I think Tom Langdon sells an aluminum plate that raises the aluminum valve cover providing space for roller rockers for the
194-292 series.

I have done the double gasket with success. Be sure to use the good one like I sent you. Seal them together as a assy before use.
As Hank said, cutting the cover to clear is the best thing

The spacer that Tom sells As far as I know is to use the Older valve cover (235/261) On the 194,230,250,292 Heads. How ever I know of two selling the spacer for the later 194,230,250,292 heads and I being One of them. from 1/4-3/4 inch thick.

How much for the spacer? I was looking at it again today. I think there is enough material to clearance it but it sure gives me pause to go hacking on that nice new cover like that.

Ok, now I'm going to try to finally fix this problem, over a year later. Two gaskets isn't working. I was dumb and tossed the stock head bolts after installing new expensive ARP studs. Now I want some stock head bolts back and can't find where to buy them. I figured Rockauto would have them but no luck there.

Anyone know where I can get stock 230/250/292 head bolts?

Pete,
You just need to notch the valve cover to clear the ARP head studs. I use a air powered Cutter with a carbide bit.

I also have lots of stock head studs. Tom

Notch is not the right word. I'll email you about the bolts.
