Anybody had any experience with the Clifford 264 or Engle EP-15/100H cams. They claim their target Power Range is from Idle to 4500 RPM. With the stock 3.73's & Powerglide, 4500 RPM is 100 MPH and when we get the 700R4, 4500 RPM = double the speed limit here in Texas. Now I know I'd need one hell of a downhill or a Katrina type tail-wind to obtain triple digits and I drive like Miss Daisy. I was planning on using my 32/36 Holley-Weber for low speed flow & torque. Tell what ya know or have seen and the beer's on me.

I would offer, you're building the engine for *acceleration*, right? Otherwise why buy a cam at all?

So what matters is when do you FIRST hit 4500?
With the glide, that is then about 60mph.
But, you must have tall tires, since my glide hits 4500 in 1st at about 53mph, with a 3.08 gear and 195x75r14 tires.

And, with the 700r4, you will first hit 4500 at about 30mph.

I think the 264h is a good choice for street use, the Engle too if it is similar.

Hey Deuce,

I'm looking for as much torque & horse power as possible below 4000 RPM. Don't need to go fast, just need enough grunt to pull a big boat or a little John Deere around the Texas Hill Country.

Tires on my 66 C10 are 30 inches tall and I spend most of my time cruise'n around 2500 RPM. Once I install the 700R4 the cruise RPM should drop to a little over 1500.

So do ya think the 264H will help, or just be a waste..?

If max 4000 and cruise at 1500 is really the plan, I'd probably leave the stock cam in it. Or at most, something like the Crower 248hdp, at 192-200 duration. That would give peak power just over 4000 and be happy cruising under 2000.

I also like the clifford 264 cam. Not many cams are going to like 1500 rpm cruise though. That is a big load for 1500 rpm, I bet the tq convertor will be slipping bad until lockup.You need to get the gearing set for 1900-2000 rpm cruise or it will be a pig.

Hey Tom,
Here is what I've calculated. But I usually just 'putt' around town and not much more that 65 MPH on the open highway. Once the 700R4 is in I can leave it in 3rd, but the Powerglide up-shifts well below my usuall 45 MPH cruise mode.

Input Parameters Are the Following: 700R4
Differential Gear = 3.73 to 1
Transmission Gear = 0.70 to 1
Tire Diameter (Inches) = 28.00..30.0
Vehicle MPH = 65
Computed Engine RPM is 2037.....1902

Input Parameters Are the Following: Powerglide
Differential Gear = 3.73 to 1
Transmission Gear = 1.00 to 1
Tire Diameter (Inches) = 28.00..30.0
Vehicle MPH = 65
Computed Engine RPM is 2911.....2717

A 700r4 is .72 OD.
With that RPM you will be very happy.
