Well, as i continue my search for the perfect engine core the only kind the juck yards around here seem to have are ford 300s or slant 6s.
i have a 71 buick skylark that came stock with a chevy 250. question is has anyone heard of putting a ford 300 in a buick? i know motor mounts would be an issue and maybe hood clearance but thats all relatively easy to overcome. what about transmissions?????any help would be great.

Well, I guess if your heart is set on it......Start cutting! Both Chevy and Ford engines are very reliable and Hey! they all go fast! As far as the engine to trans, try; www.advanceadapters.com

If you really want to be creative, stuff a Buick Straight 8 in that rascal.

theone,
Well, you could just use a Ford trans. If making motor mounts is no problem for you then making a trans mount for a Ford trans should be within your capabilities too. A C4 is a compact unit. A C6 is a nearly indestructible brute, but larger.
One of my 300 vehicles uses a C4, one uses a C6, one uses a toploader 4-speed, and three use GM powerglides. GM / Ford trans adapters are available. Your Skylark isn't like its sister Pontiac tempest with a rear transaxle and flexy driveshaft, is it? Go to the www.fordsix.com website and all the major 300 dimensions are listed under the FAQ. Good luck with your project - it sounds as exciting as my buddies early 'Vette with a blown flathead Ford.

is the C6 a 4 speed? and if so what is the final drive ratio? also, would a ford AOD transmission work on a 300?

C6 is three speed 1:1. Don't know any reason AOD wouldn't work behind 300.
