My buddy brought his 41 Chevy Custom Deluxe to my house yesterday and we were comparing exhaust. I noticed the engine noise from his 216 was much quiter than my 235. My lifters are loud, his quiet. Is this normal?

I noticed going from a 216 to a 261 in my truck that the 216 was a lot quieter, even with a rod knock.

Dear Garretthes;

There are lots of variables to consider etc.

Just check the adjustment on yours (.008 & .015 hot) and don't worry. If your oiling okay, your okay.

They may be a little noisy but will last much longer.

Good luck, John M.....

My 85 years old machanc and engine mentor told me that in those "good old days" the have a saying:

"A noisy valve is a happy valve"

Well actualy the lifters/rockers are noisy but in the end I think he is right (like always)
