Hey fellas,Is the 292 oil dipstick different than a 250's?If so is the tube the same or will I have to get both the tube and stick?

My guess, and let me emphasize that word guess, is that the dipsticks are not the same for the 250 and the 292. I'm guessing they would not be because the 292 has a much deeper oil pan. They do for the large trucks anyway.

Yeah Mike, that's what Im thinking to.Saturday I went to a junkyard and got a 292 oil pan, pickup tube and both side covers and looking at the pan I think they might be different to but I'm hoping someone on here knows for sure. The engine I robbed these parts from was missing the dipstick. The tube was still there but It looked like my 250 tube so I didn't get it.Thanks for the replie Magic Mike...........see ya,Gerald

Hi SwampBuckRabbit...
Sure...,they are different, so the 292 oil dipstick is longer than a 250's ! Hope this helps...

On my 292 the dipstick tube is 5 13/16 inches long(exterior to the block) and the dipstick is 14 7/8 inches, including the overlap at the top that goes over the end of the tube. The "full" mark is 1 9/16 inches from the end of the dipstick. Sam

Hey thanks Sam for taking the time to measure your dipstick.I measured my tube and stick and by my calculations the end of my stick needs to be three more inches in the block. This is a dipstick and tube from a 250,anyway it seems like I could cut the top of the tube off three inches and this should do it.Of course I hope to find the right one rather than do this. Thanks again for all you guys comments................Gerald

Hey thanks LeeLites, and my 292 oil pan came from an old school bus probably about mid sixtys model........but man this pan looks like it should hold more than six qts. for it's much deeper than my 250's which I know for fact it held five qts. with the filter. All the specs I have seen on the 292 say six qt. capacity......but have you ever heard of any stock pans holding more? Thanks dudes..............Gerald
