are you saying you are already looking @ an engine that does not knock & no smoke & you want to know how much you should pay for it? Is it a 4 bbl engine? 1 BBl? As a guess, a running 1 BBl sprint engine could sell for 200 - 400 If it's a good 4bbl engine 600-1000 range, that's a guess. They are pretty rare nowadays, @ least I do not see them that often. These would be Ca prices. Not some guy on a farm w/the engine in his barn. Hope this helps MBHD

I would say 150-200 for a 1 bbl. Atleast double for a 4 bbl and dual exh.

I paid $250 for a non-sprint and $250 for a fake sprint (1bbl head and cam, but with 4bbl intake and exhaust). Both had bad cams in them. One was in better shape internally than the other. Interestingly enough, the '66 block had almost twice as thick cylinder walls as the '69 block.

And the best part is a 292 crank drops in without camshaft interference! I had a couple of these engines several years ago. Lost interest and sold some parts on eBay and the rest at the scrap yard. I didn't actually drop in a 292 crank and rods to verify but it sure looked like it would clear.

No, it wasn't, and block-pasting text from Roget's serves no purpose.

Gary what do you get for.........., nope I better PM this one. Back to the Pontiac what is the difference in the 1 & 4 bbl engines? And what was the problem wit those heads? My uncle had one in the 60s and it ran pretty well but I was into older stuff and didn't pay any attention to it.

I heard the valvetrain was very problematic and prone to failures. Not sure what the differences were between the two heads, probably valve sizes were part of it though.

The 4bbl sprint engine had more compression, Valve sizes, I believe were the same. I am pretty sure the cam was a bit more agressive than the 1bbl version? The 4bbl had split 3& 3 exhaust manifolds. Camshaft failures, wearing too soon, oiling problems possibly? MBHD Ahh, here we go. http://www.overheadcammerschapter.150m.com/history.htmlThe Sprint option included a high lift-longer duration cam, dual valve springs to control valve float up to the 6500 redline, 10.5 to 1 high compression head, special harmonic balancer, dual exhaust manifolds (3 cyl. each to control exhaust pulses), high flow intake manifold, Rochester Quadrajet 4 barrel carb and a V8 clutch disc and pressure plate
