I've spent two hours reading about lumps, should I put them in the 261 I'm getting ready to build?

I also just read using a 235 head on a 261 would increase compression, perhaps to 9:1? IF I use the 261 head should I do to increase compression? (My intent for the engine is to put in a bulldog cam, header, dual Rochester BCs....)

I have a stock 261, and a stock 235 head I could drill steam holes in: What should I have the block bored out to get standard (cheap)pistons and can I re-use the rods from the 261 with standard pistons?

If any of you guys who have built these old engines before are wandering through Salt Lake City, or live in a state next to Utah, please let me know, I'd appreicate all the help and insight I can get. Plenty of room in the quest room and a heated 1500 square foot garage.

Have a great one,

Teds Inline 6

Here's a couple of quick answers:
1. The lumps are for later inlines in the 194-292 series, not the 261.
2. The stock 848 head will raise the stock compression unmachined to around 8:1. You could just machine the 261 head to get the compression you want.
3.It's possible to bore the block .100 over, but not advisable for a street engine. Common is .060 over.
4. Check the membership roster for Utah.
5. Modifying any engine is never cheap. \:\)

Thanks Drew, I'm learning about # 5 and I'll practice cleaning up the head on the 235 before I try the 261. I appreciate the info, have a great day,

Hey Sandy, I'm up in Coalville. I can only help with #4 on the list. I'm not to sure if there are any other Ubangies here or not.

Terrific Coalville, I'll take all the help I can get. Knowing it's going on XMAS finding time might be a problem but a chat over a cup of coffee would be a good thing. Let me know if you're interested,
