Back in the game with a 55 2nd series pickup and looking to put dual carbs on it. I went through this several years ago with a Fenton intake and Carter W1`s. I was not overly impressed with the results and looking for other options this time around. Truck has a stock 235, 3.90`s, S10 T5 with the 3.76 first and will have a set of splits shortly. Thoughts?

An express train leaves Chicago headed West at 67 mph at 3:19 Central Standard time. At the same moment a guy in a '54 Chevy Pickup with a turboed 292 and a 700R4 with 3.54 gears and 30" tires leaves Modesto, CA. How fast will he have to drive to get hit by the train at the I80 crossing in Salt lake? What will his rpms be at point of impact? What will be his average mpg? What time will it be in Wendover? \:\) Beater

I was told there would be no math . . .

The train has to cover ~1400 miles - the car perhaps half that distance.

If the guy in the pickup is leaving at the same time he could drive up through Reno at a leisurely pace to a point beyond mile marker 150 on I80 - spend a short night at a nearby hotel . . . and head for Salt Lake early the next day.

The train should be at the crossing around 11:15AM Mountain Time . . . so he'll need to plan breakfast time accordingly. RPM at the time of impact will depend on what gear he's in and if he's running late. Does the train have to hit him - or can he broad side it in the crossing and still win the game?

If he goes for dual carbs - his gas mileage will likely suffer - but he'll get more oohs and aahs when he stops for gas and pops the hood to pull the dip-stick . . .

If going for the old school look I'd suggest an Edmunds with 2 Stromberg 97's or 81's. A more modern look can be had with Langon's progressive Weber setup with adapters that will fit any of the log manifolds . . .

Hey Beater,
Did you walk to school, or carry a lunch?
Are you sure?

Carb question was for a 235 in my pickup and gonna keep the train stock at this time but will seek advice later if I change my mind \:\/
Thanks for the recommendations so far and with so many carb choices out there just looking for opinions.
As stated in my original post, the W1`s looked good but I was not happy with the performance.
Would 2 Rochester carbs from a late 70`s chevy 250 be over kill?
What about to early 216`s?
I am in Surrey.

HB32; I have a 58 Chevy 1/2 ton with Fenton intake (& exhaust manifold) with two Carter Webers sourced from Tom Langdons Stovebolt 6 and consistently get decent mileage, 18 mpg on the highway at 65 plus MPH. Also have installed a three speed overdrive from a later car. Performance is O.K. and in my mind that is the way to go. SOB

Beater, your math is flawed, the truck will only make it just east of Carson City NV where it is taken apart to repaint the hood and won't be back on the road for close to a year. \:\) \:\) \:\)

School? Math? Flawed? Pickup? Road? These are concepts beyond my grasp!

A pair of Zenith carbs may be the answer to hb32's dilemma. Model 21s, I think. Lots of adjustments from venturies to jetting. Way old time and the performance package of choice in the day.
