Hello fellow inliners! I'm a newbie with a oil pan question. I'm in the process of gathering up parts to rebuild my 250 and have a chance to get a 292 pan.

It's my understanding that a 292 pan will bolt on to a 250. If this is true is there any reason to do this if I am planning an above average street build for my 250. Plan is to go at least 30 over, cam, head work, dual carbs, headers etc.

Is there any extra longevity benefit in the bigger pan or would it be something to just brag about at the car shows. Thanks for the advice guys!

The pan holds more oil I believe & will be further away from the crankshaft & get less oil splash back onto the crankshaft.

I would put some type of baffle/s to prevent the oil from traveling back of the oil pan & then to the rear of the crankshaft.

So if I understand, your saying its just more money and more work for no real benefit?

I would run it if it holds more oil, it bolts right in, it just needs a rear baffle to use for drag racing.

The distance of the pan is further away from the crankshaft so it should get less oil splash back onto the crankshaft which is better.

Depending on your chassis, it may not fit. The oil pickup is different than the 250. The 292 pan is a full 1" deeper. I have also seen 3 versions.
292 pans from ag equipment have no baffle at all.
