We were at the new miniature Route 66 Last week. Radiator Springs has to most closely be Seligman AZ. Ramones is based on an old gas station in Shamrock TX. The Cadillac Range from the Cadillac Ranch outside Amirillo TX.And almost a total copy of the Giant Jackrabbit sign from AZ. Have a great trip and let us know if you decide to head north and take the Lincoln Highway part way home.

Which way are you going home? You should check out the gas station in Shamrock. Take a picture of the cars there. It is on the road that goes to Wellington and Childress. Eat at the Big Texan in Amarillo?

I've been by the Big Texan before, wish I would have been hungry enough to try out there deal with the 72 oz. steak. If your going to Amarillo, look up Joe Abbin while your there, he is definately a person of interest to talk to and a real nice guy.

There's cool stuff all the way. I grew up on that highway. I love it. Neat things in Tucumcari ,a horde of old cars gleaned from the whole area and stacked up in a fenced and posted yard in Moriarty, Old Town Albuquerque is more than worth a visit. There used to be a car stash at the crossroads south of Glenrio, right in the TEXMEX state line, but I think they are part of the pile in Moriarty now. The worst thing about New Mexico is trying to spell the names of the towns.

Scrap, Ars you going south from Albuquerque to go home? I wish I was on a road trip. Beater

Someday I am going to put colored pins in a map showing all the break downs on major road trips and what was being driven using different colors for different cars. Kind of a Joe Leaphorn map. (You guys read Hillerman?) What ever the color for GM 6s there won't be many of them.
My dad was a big time MOPAR flathead six fan but we broke some stuff on 66. We spent several days at Lake Tahoe in '52 waiting for '49 Merc parts to come from Sacramento. Jake and I met some wonderful folks on our Studebaker powered Nevada/Texas trips. Stude parts were not plentiful in '01-'05 but good people came to our rescue every time we needed help. The more remote the breakdown the more gracious the helpers. Maybe we need a thread/link here of WHO YOU GONNA" CALL? if you are broken down in a strange town. I always carry an Inliners members roster, a Studebakers Drivers Club magazine, duct tape, and beer.

Made it home with NO issues with the car. We drove 1960 miles overall and with a 17.4 mpg. This was a great trip and a lot of neat things to see. Posted a few a few photos of stops we made.

Jerry, Glad you are home safe with another great road trip tucked under your belt! Please post all the photos you took that show your route. The Magnoia Station is really cool and I think it is the one used in the TV commercial. The CONOCO is the one Disney used from the same town. A fun road trip in our vehicles of choice is the ultimate as far as I am concerned. Drags are cool, Bonneville is cool, circle track is a kick, shows and trophies all have their place. Driving across this huge beautiful country is IT! There is so much history and so much to learn. You could take the same trip and have a completely different experience. Sorry for the rant, I just get off on road trips. Beater

FYI...If you ever have alt.or starter or radiator problems near or in Elk City,OK these guys can take care of it. They are 2 blocks off of RT.66 and have been there for ever. They have a big stock of those old gen. and starter parts in those old dusty shelves. MR. Word that owns the shop is old, crusty, rude, crude, and loves to talk !!! You are missing something if you don't stop if only for a visit.. Word's Radiator Shop 120 S.Adams Ave. Elk City,OK 580-225-2925

We took 2 ford wagons ('59/'60) out route 66 and up to Viva last April.
(did it in the '60 in 2011 as well)
2 weeks on the road, up thru Zion, ending up at Lonestar Roundup.
Awesome trip, and now building a '41 Coupe to do it again.

I've never been to Viva but I went to the Roundup once. If I ever get my roadster built I'll go again.

That was my first trip to Austin. If you want to find the leaks in your old dried out Nevada desert car drive it through a few hundred miles of Texas rain. The tornado in Dripping Springs was an adventure but my favorite part was night time on Congress. Good food, music, and cars. I should try the Roundup again. I'm only 67 so there's no hurry.
