Hi there,

I'm doing some minor stuff to my engine and was wondering about my oil filtration, does anyone know if this is full pressure or by-pass?
Also, can i change this to a modern spin-on filter somehow?

There is an article in the 'Tech Tips' on full flow conversions, I have done it on some of my engines and it is quite easily accomplished.

Thank you for the tips!
I have read the article in techtips, but i am unsure on:
1. where to drill
2. what to do with the oil pipe up to the head

I understand the need of taping and blocking the passege and the drilling and the remote filter, but then what? =)

Confused? You still need the pipe at the front of the head to feed oil to the rockers from the now filtered oil gallery. Many make that about a .060" for the feed. If you are still using the overflow tube on the rocker arm shaft near the center it may not make any difference. I now run a lot of pressure so I control flows to different parts of the engine with orifaces
The old bypass oil filter emptied right at the distributor which sprayed at the gear. I still do that with a line tee-ed off the rocker line. I solder up a fitting and drill a .035" hole at a slight angle aiming at the distubtor gear.

Send me your email I have pictures of my engine on a stand with the hoses and filter.

Thanks for the clarification.
And yes, i'm more confused than usual.

I was looking at a conversion walkthrough over at oldgmctrucks.com and it made it alittle more clear, i would appreciate pics though, thanks!

Here are the only pictures I have. Imagine me not taking a dozen or so.

Great pics everyone, thanks a bunch!

I am contemplating of doing this, i only feel slight hesitation on pulling the engine.

Should it happen i am going to do a complete walkthrough with all steps and pictures for future references.
