Hello,

I am having a hard time trying to sort out a transmission upgrade for my ´59 gmc 270.

I understand that an 80's T5 from a S10 vill bolt to my current bellhousing, which is great, only problem is that here in Sweden there are virtually no S10's from that vintage (believe S10 made it's debute here in 1994)

So.. here's my idea:
Buy a transmission adapter for a th350/th700r4 (Buffalo Ent. or Larrowe) and then get a NV3500 bolted to the adapter..

Anyone taken this path before?
I know it's asking for trouble using all sorts of adapters, but i'm at roads end. really wanna keep the 270 with a sync. OD manual transmission in the 38 Chevy Coupe.

Thanks
Fred

Fred, are there many MK3 supras left in Sweden? It's a stout trans and will bolt up with an advance adapter bellhousing.

I don't think a T5 will bolt to your existing bellhousing. A Muncie 4 speed or a Borg-Warner T10 should, the T5 is a much different bolt pattern than these.

If I remember correct. Camaro T5's used a common GM bolt pattern shared with Muncies and saginaws. But it was turned about 15 degrees, possibly for better shifter location.

Good advice all around, thanks guys.

When looking at the multiple threads on T5 swaps it is my understanding that the T5 Before 1993 will bolt up to my BH with a spacer.. but i'll guess i'll never know due to the lack of these boxes here.
I am currently looking at a Volvo M4 gearbox from a 70's volvo (4 speed full synchro)
Seen some conversions over at the H.A.M.B that are stunning, if it happens ill do a write up.

No, the m40 is only 4 gear non od.
Full zynchro.

This swap wont be happening any time soon, but if it does i'll document it.

IIRC the m40 was what was in the Volvo P1800, with the Laycock OD behind it. The output shaft on the OD wouldn't take any additional power over what the stock B18 motor had.
