I have started work on the 1936 dodge truck this week and would prefer to use the GM 292 six and GM automatic. what length difference between the 292 and the stock '36 dodge truck 6 cyl. engine.I have unsuccessfully tried to search and most likely not correctly asking with proper nomenclature.or steer me in the correct path. very much appreciate time taken on the subject

I saved the following dimensions from a source I no longer remember and I'm sorry to say I don't know the exact points the length measurement was taken from. These numbers are from a 250, but the only difference would be the height, if I'm correct.

Chevy 250 external dimensions

L = 32.5”
W = 16” (23 W/MANIFOLD)
H = 24”
Wt = 410 lbs

I get 42 1/4" from rear of bell housing to fan on a 292. The 32.5" would be from water pump pulley to where the bell housing bolts on.

Why not use a 258 Dodge flathead? The 292 has become the "cookie cutter" if inlines. \:D

The obvious choice is a 225 slant 6, it's considerably shorter than the 292 Chevy because of closer bore pitch, but still has far better power than a flathead engine.

Where's that guy that says the Atlas 4200 is the only worthwhile engine. \:D

1935, I had a 292 in my 36 Dodge sedan several years ago. It will fit. No room for a fan, But I ran a 14" electric in front of the radiator and a 10" or 12" behind the radiator (with AC).
