Any one know what vehicles had a DANA 23? On net someone mentioned 1959 Studebaker, any thoughts?

My son's '54 and a '59 wagon I had both a Dana 44s. I'll look at another '59 and a '64 in stash tomorrow if I can get under them. I know Stude used a Dana with smaller housings but I don't remember the model number.

Thank's for the help. It turns out ,Morgan, AstonMartin, Peerless & Jowett also did. & historically WWII Jeeps made a massive impression on the British car industry after the war the Salisbury/DANA became the diff of choice. I should explain what I am trying to do. I am planning to put smaller wheels on a Jowett (flat four,not inline, please don't shoot me) but then need to change the diff ratio ,to maintain the road speed. & it seem's easier to get a diff or crown set for a more common car eg Jeep or Studebaker, Rambler( all inliners) than an odd ball like Jowett or Peerless. The DANA probably also stayed in production long after Jowett ceased production. Or may share the crown & pinion with the later DANA's.

All my Studes are 44s, Not sure but I think the smaller one they used was a 36. Ford station wagons used 44s in the '50s and so did the early T-Birds. A lot of the carriers and ring and pinions sets will interchange. The Studebaker versions used tapered axles with keys until the last year or so of production. Some postal jeeps used a very narrow 44. It all confuses me.

Thank you for looking, I agree it is all confusing & I expect once I find the answer I will be the oracle of DANA rear ends! This may however take a while as the parts I am looking for are now 70 to 60 years old. As you are a Studebaker man , do Studebaker six's have 12 port heads? Seven bearing crank? What capacity were the largest six's? My other project is a flatty six rod, looking for the best option.

51 Merc. had 44s (seems like i remember that} and we would use the Jeep 5.38 gear sets in the Merc. units. They(51 Merc) fit under a 38 Chevy real good....J
