I have a 292 Chevy engine with Langdon headers and want to install new intake manifold with 4 barrel carburetor and would like to find out what would be the best size and brand of carburetor and intake manifold? I will not be racing my 46 1/2 ton but would like to keep up with freeway traffic.

The traditional and budget friendly upgrade is the Offey intake manifold with a Holley 390cfm carb. Don't forget the Landon heat plate for the manifold, using either coolant or tap into the headers for exhaust gases to heat the manifold with.

That's probably what I will do with my 250 Chevy when I finally get the cash for a head swap, but with the cheaper 292 2.5" HD exhaust manifold instead of the Langdon headers. From what I've gleaned from others who installed the Offey with the Langdon headers is that there may be a little grinding to get them to fit up.

I don't think I've seen the Clifford intake paired with the Langdon headers, so I don't know how the fit is.

For your needs I think a simple two-barrel carb will be quite adequate and simpler/cheaper to build.

Consider a Rochester 2GC. They are compact, plentiful, and cheap.
Or an Autolite 2100 / 2150 series, the most underated carb for performance upgrades. Simple, easy to work on and also plentiful and cheap.

What's the manifold of choice for a 2bbl? I've looked for 292 2bbl manifolds, or the pre '75 250 2bbl, on ebay and other places online but have not had much success. I know CNC dude is designing an aluminum one, but you have to wait for that one. I suppose on a truck an adapter on the Offey would work, but for my low Camaro hood it really restricts any additional height as the stock 2" air cleaner barely clears the hood.

You would use a 2BBL adaptor for your Offy or Clifford intake manifold.

IIRC, offy made/makes a 2 bbl adaptor that is nicer to use than these universal units.

The Offenhauser adapter is a bit pricy, but at only 0.5" compared to the 1.4" for the Mr Gasket, that might fit under my hood with an Offey intake with a 2GC which fits my factory air cleaner. I'm not sure if the Offey adds or subtracts to the height of the carb over my 250 integrated head, and if the 2GC is shorter or the same height of my mono jet. That might be a budget option for my build.

35. bucks is a bit pricy ??????? It would almost cost that much for a piece of Billet Unless you can get your hands on a cut off from some one. Then your adding the machine work to the over all
price. so 35. bucks isn't bad.

Relatively speaking, the Mr Gasket adapter posted was only $15 and almost 3x the height so it was more raw material. I'm not sure how Mr Gasket is selling it at that low price if the raw material is nearly $35.

Aluminum does flucuate a lot in cost, but I used to make a lot of carb spacers and my material cost ended up only being about $5 bucks for the raw material per spacer for 1" thick.

You could always buy a piece of 3/8" aluminum plate for about $5 bucks. Drill & tap holes for bolts & cut holes for the butterfly valves on the carb.

Throttle linkage will probably hit with just a flat plate.

Yeah, that makes more sense. $5 for material. Mr Gasket selling it as a low price point while Offey goes for a premium price point.

I guess I have three options so far: Holley/Offey/open-element-air-cleaner, 2GC/Offey/adapter/factory-air-cleaner, or wait for CNC-Dude-2bbl-intake/2GC/factory-air-cleaner. The later might be the cheapest option. ;\)

You probably won't like this price either. ($89)
But it does mount directly to a Clifford manifold.

Yup, Clifford stuff is a bit out of my price range. And with my ground clearance, I can only use their shorty headers.
