The 1 barrel Rochester on my truck cracked and is done for. I have a brand new 32/36 progressive weber and I was thinking of trying it. The intent was to use a adapter to run the factory intake. I have read that it may be to small for a 292. My truck is a 3/4 ton 4x4 so not a race truck. Just a daily driver/ camper hauler. Its all stock. Is it really a no go or can it be jetted up to work decent? Thanks for any advice.

It can still work even if it's too small.
It just cant make the same amount of power if it is smaller.

You should get better mileage.

So you feel it would lose power over the factory 1 barrel?

You stated the Weber is a smaller carb, so, if it is smaller, how can it make the same or more power?
The engine would be getting less air.
Make sense?

I am pretty sure the primary is smaller than the 1BBL, so you are going to have to give it more throttle to make the same power.

Who did you buy the Weber from?
Do they know what jetting you should start off with on a 292?

The carb was for a jeep project that went away, so it was not bought for the 292 exactly. I just busted the Rochester on my truck and thought it might be useable. If not then I will have to sniff out a replacement 1 barrel to get back on the road.

How were you planning to bolt it to your intake?

Here is a good thread on jetting the "Pinto" Weber carb.

BTW it is actually BIGGER than your 292-1bbl. The 32/36 Pinto Weber is about 200cfm at 1.5" Hg and your 292-1bbl is about 180cfm at 1.5" Hg.

Do you have an MV 1bbl or an older B or BV carb ie what year is your rig?

I did something different. I bought a TD adapter and bolted on a Autolite 2100 carb from a 66 mustang 289 engine. I was not real pleased with the way the adapter needed a lot of work. Had to grind clearance on the sides to get it to fit, as well as enlarge the mounting holes to 3/8. However the carb mounted clean with the throttle linkage pulling strait back. I did not have to modify my linkages any as my factory cable fit right up perfectly. I did have clearance issues with the hot air choke hitting the valve cover. I have taken the choke off and will be researching a manual choke of some sort. The carb I ended up with has a 1.14 stamped in the side so it checks out as a 300 cfm. The jets are sized 49 and I am guessing that its correct for a 289 cube engine. On my 73 truck with the 292 it has made a night and day difference. It starts very quickly. The idle is dead smooth at 600 rpm. There are no bogs misses or hesitation from right off idle to freeway speeds. Throttle response is improved a lot as well, its very crisp. I have not run it enough yet to see what my mpg situation is, but I suspect it will have improved over the trashed monojet bog master carb. I don't know if its making more horsepower or not. But the clean acceleration sure makes it nice to drive. I am hooking up my 27ft. travel trailer on the 4th for a 4 day 600 mile camping trip. I will be able to report back with towing and mpg.

Good score!
The carb you got is about 212cfm at 1.5" HG, and its just the primary half of the 4100 Autolite I mentioned. When I ran the 4100, gas mileage was at least as good as the B/BC/BV 1bbl Rochester carbs. That 2100 Autolite is such a good carb it was used from 1957 all the way into the 1980s.

Im not a Monojet fan either, I guess when they're ok they're ok but when they act up they are bad news.

The more you play with that carb the more you will come to love them. You can disassemble / reassemble three of them in the time it takes to do one Holley 2V.
Next to the 300 Ford six I call the Autolite carbs "the best kept secret in hot rodding..."
