I am putting together a 292. I have a 292 oil pan. It seems that it might be deeper than a regular 194-230-250 pan??

I have a oil pickup from a 250. It measures 7&1/8" from the pan rails of the block to the bottom of the pickup. The 292 pan measures 7&7/8" deep.

Is there a different oil pickup that extends deeper for the 292 pan?

The oil pans are different in several ways, so it may be likely the pickup tube is also different than the other 194-250 engines. It could however be bent slightly and need to be tweaked back into shape. See if you can see any out of the ordinary bends in it. You can also compare it to a known pickup tube out of a 250 for comparisons sake.

Update:

I measured the distance from the bottom of pickup on the 230/250 pickup compared to the interior clearance of the 292 pan and discovered it was 1&3/8". Leo Santucci recommends the pickup be 3/8" from the pan. I simply cut the tube and welded in an additional 1" section. A little fooling around, but it enabled me to use my existing pickup tube by simply extending it 1" to work with the deeper 292 pan.

Here is my pic comparing the 250 and 292. The 292 is the front one.Notice how it bolts to a different main stud.
Nice job on fixing your problem.
