I believe I already know the answer to this, but I need to ask because have a fresh built engine available to me for $600 with an integral head...
Can I take that head off and replace it with the standard non integral head?

Kind of a pain when you got an integrated head, because you don't have a head to work, and the parts that go with it to swap out in phases to do the improvements over time. It's an all in deal, have to swap the whole top end at once. Haven't done much with mine for that reason.

I just got a 250 intergal head engine today out of 81 C10. It was running but hadn't really got to look it over and check compression. I will be hitting the junk yard tomorrow looking for the older style head.

That should be the Varajet integrated head. Is that correct, set up for two barrel carb?

You might message integrated j 78, he has one he is adapting to a '78 Nova 250. He might be interested in another.

The Varajet head also has a single exhaust manifold with dual 2" outlets for a dual exhaust (factory is just a short dual to a Y pipe before the catalytic converter. Integrated J 78 was having an adapter made to connect the Varajet exhaust manifold to a '77-'78 Monojet cylinder head. I don't know how successful he was, but that is also an option with the stock parts.

I haven't pulled the head but I Don see any cracks. What area on the manifold does this usually occur?

I don't have easy access right now, but I recall it being very easy to see. I have two manifolds and both are cracked. The head usually cracks on the inside, you will see them when you pull it. Jay
