I found a 261 engine but will need to have it shipped here. Does anyone have any idea what a 261 or a 235 engine weighs - with all accessories, bell housing and starter? Best guesses?

i boxed one to ship a fews years back i think it was around 550??

Ouch! I have to get it hauled about 1500 miles. It just might cost more than it's worth. Even if I went to get it I'd spend $350 in gas and three days of my time. I may just have to pass on this one.

I had a GMC 302 shipped to me from St Louis to western NY state by truck freight,about 1000 miles. Cost 150 bucks,I picked it up at the truck terminal.The weight on this complete engine with bellhousing and clutch was listed at 560 lbs by the freight company.
It's less expensive if the person shipping the engine drops it off at the terminal and you pick it up at the terminal.
Also,if you live by airport served by Foward Air,check out their costs.I've shpped 400 lbs motorcycles across country in 3 days for 400 bucks.Foward air ship engines that are securely strapped to a pallet.They will unload it by forklift from the back of a pu truck,and load it the same way at it's destination.

Tony's correct. I used Forward Air to ship motors, trannys, etc. and they are very good. If you live near a major airport, that's the best way to ship big and heavy items. For some odd reason shipping can be cheaper in neighboring states although with Texas that may not be the case.

where is the motor being shipped from ? I know of a guy that makes trips about twice a year from Wisconsin to Texas and can haul a motor. or you may try this link, http://www.ytmag.com/cgi-bin/haulquery.pl

He is from Texas and his friend is a hauler from somewhere in Wisconsin, ?? If I remember correctly his friend's name is Brian. This is about all I know. See if this helps you any. Good luck.

A check at: www.freightquote.com can help sometimes. You can find deals on partial loads comming 'your way' etc. Last one I shiped was 525# W/O bell housing or Gen. so Larry's right at 550. Good luck.
