Hey guys I’m Looking for an oil pan for a 54 261. The pan off my 58 261 won’t fit. Any help would be appreciated. I was also told that an early 235 pan would fit but don’t know if that’s true.

Describe "won't fit"?

Sorry should have described that. The bolt pattern doesn’t match. The rails are strait on the block, as there the the pan off the later model pan has a outward bow in it. I believe it’s because the 54 block is not a full flow oil filter.

AFAIK all 261 use the late pan.
How did you ID yours as 1954 261?

The block has the double hole water pump.
I’m very new to these engines so if I’m not to sure of specific names or styles.

I used to have a picture of both style blocks side by side but can no longer find it. The search continues.

This suggests that 261 engines were built with the older oil system.

Yes. They built one with the 54 style water pump and mounts. They also built it later and offered it through the parts distribution channel with the distributor pad not stamped as a sort of "crate engine" that would be a bolt in for the big truck 216 engines that wore out so they could use their original accessories. I have one of those in storage I bought from Warren Foster years ago. It seems it has the 54 casting numbers but a later date code.

I found some side pictures that show block casting numbers but not the pictures I want that show water pump differences. 54-55 is one series and 56-62 are the other. If you want to pm an e-mail address to me, I will send the pictures I did find.

The production date code suggests July of 61
