I got the Holley weber from Tom Langdon and it's far more for the buck than could be asked for.

First, I need to see if anyone knows where I can find an adapter or an air cleaner for that odd oval pattern.

Only snag is the mounting on a Chevy 250. If I mount it with the bowl to the front (like his instructions say to avoid fuel starvation), I can't get the kickdown cable on the trans hooked up. If I mount it any other way, I can't get the throttle cable attached or the linkage interferes with the PCV fitting on the manifold.

What I have tentatively settled on is adding half the bellcrank/cable attachments from an old 4 bbl. Q-Jet that was taking up space in the garage. I cut the half off and replaced a spacer washer on the new bellcrank with it. Now the linkage pulls in the correct direction and I think I'll be able to attach the trans cable without too much trouble.

Is this too far off base from what's been done before? Part of the fun of this is making it work, but re-inventing the wheel can be a real pain.

Welcome to hot rodding aka engine modifications. I can answer one of your questions. Air cleaners, I've got K & Ns part no. 56-1060, Custom air filter W/VEI Weber 32/36 prog. 2bbl, 5 1/2" x 9" Oval 3 1/4" H. Has a place to fit PCV valve on the bottom plate.
I'm not familar with kickdown cables. You can't shorten it and hook it to the stock bellcrank. The stock linkage looks like it would work with the carb mounted as the instructions say. Have asked Langdon to see if he's got the linkage?

Warren, I've seen that carb mounted with the float bowl in the rear and on the side, as well as front. Turn it whatever way works with your cable and see what happens. Tom sells an air cleaner for the carb. Look here: http://www.stoveboltengineco.com/acartpro/product.asp?productid=93

Tom has sold enough of these carbs and should have the answers for your cable problems. He will also sell you the steel adapter base plate/center stud to go on the carb without buying the A/C.

I bought his base plates and modified standard 6" 4bbl A/C bases to the adapters and used cheap chrome A/C's. You can see what I did here:

Well, the stock bellcrank runs the exact opposite direction from what I need (pulls to the front when mounted so the bowl is to the right (over the PCV port). This should let me pull the kickdown using the stock crank and pull the new piece with the throttle cable.

I'm a little paranoid over this since I've only got until the end of the year to get this project working.

Tom sells 2 carburetors the Carte Weber is a replacement for a Ford Escort. The other is a Holley 5200 Series carburetor. The 5200 is essentially a reproduction of a Weber DFV-DFAV-DFEV Carburetor this carburetor the throttle operates clock wise and it has a rounded diamond shape air cleaner.


Essentially a 26/36 carburetor that flows 270cfm

These Carburetors were installed Factory on
Dodge Omni Horizon 79-82
71-74 Chevrolet Vega
82 and newer Chevrolet Chevette
71-74 Ford Pinto & Mercury Bobcat
77-78 AMC Gremlin
71-74 Mercury Capri
78 Zephyr
early 80's 2.4 Liter Mustangs

Linkage and or aircleaners can be salvaged from them.
The DGV Series Weber have a Counter clockwise throttle and a Square or rectangular shape for the air cleaner.
