I’m looking fo a dual intake for this ole six, it runs pretty good, but I could only imagine how much better it would do with more fuel. Plan on splitting the Exhuast also. It’s in a 1948 ford f1

Good for you! I hope you find what you need. Wouldn't it be great if more hot rodders of the time had spent their money and time on these great engines. I've read that Ford actually played their HP and torque down to make the V8 look better. Henry liked 4s and multiples of 4. Thank you for sticking with it. There is speed equipment out there I hope you find it.

Appears to be a 12 port engine:

The same techniques apply here as for any SV engine: minimize piston to head clearance, more CR, split exhaust, cam regrind, larger intake valves, relieve the block deck.

I have often thought these engines would respond well to tuning.
There are very few other side valves with 12 ports, & these engines must be the last new design of flathead before everyone moved to OHV.

Finding parts is going to at best time consuming and more than likely expensive. I have a 226 30 over fully balanced with a Knudsen head, Mallory dual point, cam ground to Isky 400 jr specs, Nicson dual intake holding Weber carbs. Runs thru a 10" clutch to a Super T-10 4 speed and 3.54 rear end. Overall a good setup. Mileage sucks but it looks nice in our 50 Ford tudor.

I also have a Knudsen head for my 51 Biz Coupe. Mine was from a speed boat,and has the water tube mounted front and rear on the head.

Is yours like this?

I also managed to buy a Knudsen 3 x 1 intake.

Only took about 3 years to spot this stuff for sale,and a microsecond to hit the "buy it now" button. I would tell you what I paid,but it's too painful.

Sill looking for a set of cast iron headers.


Need 226 Ford flathead 6 cast iron headers.
