First time poster here! I'm rebuilding a '77 250 and need new head bolts but I'm having a heck of time finding a supplier. Any ideas?

I can not remember which But I used the 351 windsor cleveland they are stronger then the stock L6 chevy head bolts. BUT you have to shorten the front two other wise they will hit the impeller on the water pump.

Use ARP head studs!! Stronger than any comparable head bolt and custom made for each application!! Well worth the money!!

I've read that the 2 front bolts
(over the water pump) need to be shorter than the rest. All of the old bolts I removed were the same length. About 3 1/2 inches. Are the new bolts longer than that?

Stock bolts are all the same, Studs you have to watch the amount that goes in the front two Bolt holes. And The 351 bolts are longer to start with.
You also did not say if this is a stock Build or a HP build, I do agree that ARP studs are stronger then any stock head bolt. And I know that the 351 bolts will easily handle up to 11.5-1 to ? 12-1 compression I ran them for a Long time. So I will rephrase it they did for me.

Hi guys,
Is it still advisable to torque the left front stud or bolt to a lower number than the rest?
This is due to the water pump hole being so close?
Thanks

I think/feel that you may get different answers on that. I have not had any issues with using the same torque on all my bolts. But that is me. And I think it really depends on the compression your running.
