"What are the recommended ignition setups for turbo'd straight 6s? I was reading about the Megasquirt 2 and it seems like a good option? That would work with any HEI distributor, correct?"

Alternative. A mircosquirt (MS) will do what you want and its a sealed unit so it can live under hood on the rad support.

In the HEI dist. lockout the mechanical and vacuum advance. Remove and keep the hei module in the glove box..

Connect the HEI pick up to the VR ignition inputs on the MS. Connect the MS ignition output to an external ignition amplifier of your choice to the "points input" wire on the ignition amplifier.

The reason for this is the MS was not designed to fire a HEI coil, so don't do it.

Install a Inlet air temperature sensor in the air path between the turbo/intercooler and the carb.
Connect the internal MAP sensor to the intake with a hose.

Bonus - if you install a wideband O2 sensor and connect it the the MS - you can then datalog your AFR vs RPM/Boost.

In the MS software you can program in the timing curve and boost retard. It can also do boost control using an external solenoid to the back side of the waste gate.

You could use one of the injector outputs to control a water meth injector variable by boost.

Read the manual how to set the base timing using a timing light/timing tape. Suggest setting it a say 10* BTDC.
