I can't help on why the clearance is tight, or any part of the car. However, from personal pan clearance experience (Chrysler 440 in 1971 Duster) I can tell you that when you think you have enough clearance, you don't, and when you hit the brakes hard the engine shifts forward quite a bit. Add extra room, or you'll have to do it again.
