I am going to be taking apart my 3-piece bumpers so that they can go to a plating facility for new chrome . . .
Looking for ideas on how to re-assemble them afterwords . . . and a source for the parts as well . . .
The factory rivets have a very low profile on both sides of the bumper. This is important because there are close fitting dress up bars and guards that bolt on to the outside and a stone shield that runs along the top of inside. So at least at the top - if I end up using a carriage bolt it cannot run long - thinking thin jam nut with excess bolt cut off and peened so the nut can't back off. We're talking 1/2" 13 hardware . . .
Moreover, the rivets are not on the flats of the bumper - but up on the curved edges so a flat 'cap' carriage bolt won't do. Does anyone make a ribbed one? Will stainless peen?
Thinking I may have to apply some heat and do some peening so I am looking to have the re-assembly fastener arrangement working before I give the bumpers to the plater . . .
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.
