Rocking the piston is just as it sounds, you physically use your fingertips to push the piston away from you and take your reading, and then pull the piston toward you with your fingertips and take that reading, the average of the 2 readings is your deck height for that side of the piston. You will need to do this to both the spark plug side and quench side of each piston.
