I chased what I thought was a lifter/rocker noise on my 270 GMC for years. I adjusted and readjusted several times. I checked the cam, changed lifters, push rods, and rockers. I finally decided to live with it and just wait for something to break. Nothing ever did. While doing an "update" I switched from tube to cast headers. The noise disappeared. I hate that kind of crap.
