Mine is made this way.
I made it this way, just because it was easier to fab. I believe it will work just fine, but have read having the velocity stacks raised up from the plenum floor is ideal. Better/more equal airflow to all stacks.
Having a tapered plenum is supposed to create equal flow & have equal temperatures to all velocity stacks IIRC.

I think for your intended use of wanting good upper RPM power your intake will work real good for that.
